Between weeks 26 and 29, a third trimester scan is performed.
This scan is to look at:
Additionally, we may measure the length of the cervix, the baby’s activity and movement (commonly referred to as the biophysical profile), and the blood flow via the umbilical cord (umbilical cord Doppler).
It takes ten to twenty minutes to complete this scan. A probe and gel are applied to the skin of your lower belly to complete the procedure. In order to more precisely determine the length of the cervix or the location of the placenta, you may occasionally need a transvaginal scan, which involves gently inserting a sterile, covered probe into the vagina while you are covered. A PAP smear is more unpleasant than this.
Partially filling your bladder is necessary; it shouldn’t be so full that it hurts. It is recommended that you drink half a litre of water before to your visit and empty your bladder an hour before the examination.
