Fetal Medicine / Pregnancy Sonography

To view the foetus (unborn child) as it develops during the course of pregnancy, ultrasound is the best option. It can be used to check for serious genetic disorders (such Down syndrome) and to confirm the fetus’s age and the most likely date of delivery during the first trimester of pregnancy. It is used to make sure the foetus is growing healthily and to closely monitor its development later in pregnancy. An ultrasound obstetric scan is a fantastic way to meet your unborn child.

Our ultrasound scans are performed in accordance with the highest international standards, and we make use of the newest 4D technologies and ultrasound equipment available.

When should fetal ultrasound be done?

  • At 6–11 weeks, the first scan, also known as a dating scan, is performed.
  • Between weeks eleven and thirteen, a second scan known as a NUCHAL TRANSLUSCENCY scan is performed.
  • A mid-pregnancy scan, also known as an anomaly (anatomy) scan, is performed between weeks 18 and 22.
  • scan for the third trimester (performed between weeks 26 and 28)
  • As requested by the gynaecologist, a growth scan using a colour Doppler is often performed between 28 and 40 weeks.
