Combined Down Syndrome Screening

The combination screening test for the first trimester is conducted between weeks 11+0 and 13+6. In addition to dating the pregnancy and providing an anticipated due date, it also verifies the baby’s viability and detects multiple pregnancies.

The nuchal translucency, or fluid behind the baby’s neck, can be measured to check for chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome. A risk assessment for Down syndrome is provided by combining this measurement with the findings of your blood tests (from the mother’s blood sample) (Combined Screening).
